Papilio saharae

Ait-Abdallah, 1700 meters, East Tafraute, Morocco May 18 1999 ssp??? Region of Matmata 250 meters, Tunesia June 5 1999

N Africa from Morocco east to Arabia and Yemen. Often treated as a subspecies of P machaon, but apparently quite distinct in its early stages and probably more closely related to P hospiton. Not particularly common anywhere and very seasonal in its emergence (based on the timing of the rains). Well adapted to semi-arid and arid climates.
