Confined to Sulawesi and the Moluccas. Regarded by some as a ssp of G sarpedon. An abundant lowland species found at puddles. Subspecies include:

dodingensis - Halmahera, Bachan, Morotoi
crudus - Obi
anthedon - Ambon, Ceram
halesus - Buru
