Mt Kilamanjaro, 1200 meters, Tanzania; 3/55 ssp atavus | Mt Kilamanjaro, 1200 meters, Tanzania; 3/55 ssp atavus female |
Not rare, but extremely limited distribution, known
from only three localities that I am aware of, all in Tanzania (Mt. Meru,
The Oldeani-Ngorongoro range, and Mt Kilamanjaro). It is reported to be
quite common from 2100 meters to about 2500 meters, "visiting flowers and
rarely ascending to the canopy". All three locations are currently partially
protected by National Parks. Probably only a subspecies of P
fuelleborni, as intergades have apparently been discovered.
