Papilio polytes (Linnaeus, 1758)

   Common and widespread from N India through S China, Burma, Thailand, Vietnam and Loas, south through the Malay peninsula to much of Indonesia and the Philippines. The Philippine race, alphenor, has been regarded as a distinct species, as have walkeri (S India) and sakontala (N India). The last two are rather rare. Female is polymorphic and mimetic, quite distinct from the male (shown).
