Papilio phorbanta (Linnaeus, 1771)

Reunion Island  (male) Reunion Island; Jan 1950  (female)

Known only from the small French island of Reunion off East Africa, its numbers have been in a steady decline due to deforestation, and it may be threatened with extinction in the near future. It is protected by French law, but this does nothing to prevent its habitat from destruction which is its primary threat.
