   Widespread in New Guinea and a few surrounding islands; Only the nominate subspecies from Waigeu may be in danger of extinction from deforestation. Commercially raised now in Ceram, PNG, and Irian Jaya; Large numbers are bred and exported to collectors and for artwork; Money raised from its farming ensures its continued existence and provides a good income to many otherwise poor villagers. Second in size only to O. alexandriae.
