Widespread in the pampas and grasslands of northern
Argentina, to SE Brasil (Santa Catarina). Raised comercially; larval foodplant
is Aristolochia ssp native to grasslands in the area. Thought to
be a primitive species. Female is similar to male but markedly paler with
little red.
